November 2009

"Please do something different!" Words we kept hearing every day on radio and TV. Words that asked us to do something different to support Children in Need. The ladies of Earlswood took those words to heart and in deciding to do something different for those less fortunate than themselves generated the wonderful sum of 973. On two league afternooons some of the ladies played their games in their nighties and pyjamas. Not a pretty sight!!! It is so easy to put a paper note in the collecting box and feel good with oneself. But how much better when we take the effort to "DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!"

At Earlswood on October 24th 2009 shouts of "Well bowled" rang out to encourage young bowlers in the East versus West game. The youngsters were well supported by their parents and grandparents which made for a great atmosphere in the stadium. The coloured bowls also made for a colourful scene.
Earlswood's Chris Preece skipped one rink along with 3rd Dale McCarthy, 2nd's Shame Hill and Sam Torlop and Lead Cameron White. Both the WLIBA President Mrs Gloria Watkins and WIBA President Maurice Ashton were present. The trophy was presented to the winning East Captain Ross Owen by President Gloria who also congratulated West Captain Ysie White on a fine performance.

January 2010 was a winning day for Port Earl as they beat Bro Myrddin 53 to 35.75 shots. Once again the parents fully supported the youngsters.

November the 14th - WLIBA President Mrs Gloria Watkins held her President's game on her home green Earlswood rinks played against Glorias selection of ladies from many surrounding clubs. Friendly banter could be heard throughout the game which was followed by a good meal after the game. Gloria accepted accolade from the WLIBA Secretary Mrs Hilary King MBE along with the gifts from many friends. The day finished with everyone enjoying a slice of a beautiful cake which was made by Earlswood lady member Mrs Anne Coombes.

The Christmas round robin game has always been a favourite with many of our members. It's also a game in which young and old are able to enjoy together. All members make an effort to "Dress up" and during the game enjoy the old favourite Chrismas tunes. Both winners and runners up (and children) recieve a prize and while we enjoy our repast of mince pies, Christmas cake and liquid refreshment! the Christmas draw takes place. Each year Earlswood members contribute prizes for our Christmas draw and this year it again generated the wonderful sum of 584. It is hoped this friendly game will continue as it has for many years in the past

Winners and Losers of the Round Robin and Barbara Crabbe and hubbie join in the spirit of the game.

Earlswood's Hanna Clarke wins Welsh Under 25's Singles Championship

After her Under 25's win, Hanna went forward with all other National winners, to represent her country in the British Isles Championships. Having played along with her club mates Hannah Lewis and Bethan Russ in the Under 25's International Series, she was also selected to play in the Senior International Series in Scotland in March 2010. It has certainly been a successful season for this Earlswood youngster. Congratulations and good luck for the future.
